Jailer 2 Races Past Rs 540 Crore in Six Days as Dussehra Lifts Rajinikanth's Blockbuster to Global No. 2

Rajinikanth's action comedy Jailer 2 has crossed the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide in just six days, with trade tracker Sacnilk estimating its global gross at Rs 541 crore by 10 pm on Tuesday, October 20. The festive boost from Dussehra helped the Nelson Dilipkumar film hold strong through its first week, and it is already being described as one of the biggest successes in Rajinikanth's 50-year career.

The sequel to the 2023 blockbuster opened on Thursday, October 15, with a net collection of Rs 59.70 crore in India, according to trade estimates. After a dip on Friday, it climbed through the weekend and held up on weekdays, with Tuesday's Dussehra holiday giving it a lift.

On Day 6, the film earned Rs 45.55 crore net from 15,529 shows, about 7.6 per cent more than Monday. By Tuesday night, its India gross had reached an estimated Rs 337 crore, and total footfalls in India stood at roughly 1.89 crore.

Tamil contributed the biggest share on Day 6, with Rs 31.20 crore net from 7,828 shows. The Telugu version added Rs 8.75 crore from 2,293 shows, Hindi collected Rs 5.00 crore from 5,230 shows and Kannada earned Rs 0.60 crore from 178 shows. The multi-language spread shows how Rajinikanth's pull extends well beyond Tamil Nadu.

International markets are a major driver. Jailer 2 earned an estimated Rs 10 crore overseas on Day 6, taking its cumulative overseas gross to Rs 204 crore. Trade reports also said the film overtook Dhurandhar 2 in overseas collections by Day 4 and had crossed Rs 400 crore worldwide by then. Day 5 estimates varied between about Rs 475 crore and Rs 478 crore globally.

Global figures underline the scale of the opening. According to Rentrak estimates, Jailer 2 was the second-biggest film in the world over the October 16 to 18 weekend, grossing $31.2 million. Only Paramount's Street Fighter, with $51.1 million, earned more. Sunday alone brought in $6.5 million, and the film grossed an estimated Rs 224 crore (about $23.5 million) in India during its four-day extended opening.

Several trade reports say the film delivered the largest opening of Rajinikanth's career and is the fastest Tamil film to reach Rs 500 crore worldwide. These claims come from trade analysts using early estimates, so exact records may be adjusted when final figures are released.

Jailer 2 is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures. It continues the story of the 2023 film Jailer, which was a major hit for Rajinikanth, and it is being released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.

Reports say Amazon Prime Video bought the digital rights in a deal worth about Rs 160 crore, with streaming expected around four weeks after the theatrical release. Those details are unconfirmed estimates, so viewers should wait for an official announcement.

For now, the focus is on the second weekend. Day 7 advance booking was reportedly around Rs 9.86 crore gross, including block seats, by the afternoon, and trade watchers will be looking at whether walk-in audiences keep numbers high once the Dussehra holiday ends. A strong second weekend would push the film toward higher global milestones.

Jailer 2 is a reminder of how much a major festival release can still do for Indian cinema. A big opening, strong overseas business and release in several languages have combined to put a Tamil film near the top of the global chart. For the industry, it also shows the importance of festive timing and franchise value, with sequels continuing to be reliable draws.
