Honda Unveils Neo-Retro CB250SS Scrambler Concept in China, With a Production Bike Due Spring 2027

Honda has revealed the CB250SS Scrambler Concept, a compact neo-retro motorcycle powered by a 249cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, at the 2026 CIMA Motor show in Chongqing, China. The bike is still officially a concept, but Honda China has indicated that a production version is planned for spring 2027, with China expected to get it first.
What Honda Showed
The CB250SS Scrambler Concept debuted at the 24th CIMA Motor show, the large annual motorcycle trade event in Chongqing that opened on September 19, 2026. Honda describes the styling as "NeoRetro × Scrambler," and it was one of six new or updated models on the company's stand. Honda has positioned the bike for younger riders and says it is aimed at Generation Z.
Design and Styling
The concept combines classic scrambler cues with modern details. It has a round headlamp, a ribbed seat, an upswept exhaust and block-pattern dual-purpose tyres that give it a rugged look. The front forks are finished in gold, which adds a premium touch, and the overall proportions suggest a compact, design-first motorcycle rather than a heavy adventure machine.
Images released so far have been limited, and observers note that the photos do not fully do the bike or its colours justice. The concept was shown in white and red.
Engine and Hardware
At its heart is a 249cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. Honda has not yet disclosed power and torque figures. Because the engine is a quarter-litre single, many observers expect it could be related to the unit in Japan's Rebel 250, which makes about 26 bhp and 22 Nm. That is speculation until Honda confirms the specifications.
The bike sits on a steel frame with upside-down front forks and 17-inch wheels. Other details described include Pro-Link rear suspension, ABS and a round TFT display believed to support Honda RoadSync smartphone connectivity. Honda has not published a complete specification sheet.
Production Plans
Honda's confirmed timing is a Chinese production launch in spring 2027. Whether the CB250SS will be offered beyond China is unclear. Some coverage suggests the production version could eventually reach other markets, while others say it may not arrive in some regions in its current form. Honda has not confirmed where the bike will be built.
The next big opportunity for clarity is EICMA 2026 in Milan in November, where Honda could reveal more about global plans.
What About India?
Honda has made no announcement about an India launch of the CB250SS, and there is no official word on price, booking dates or sales timing for any market. Any expected price circulating online is an estimate and should be treated with caution.
Why It Matters
The CB250SS shows how strongly motorcycle makers are leaning on retro design and approachable engines to attract younger riders. A 250cc scrambler can be easier to ride, insure and own than a larger machine, while its styling gives it more character than a standard commuter. For Honda, the concept is also a sign that the company sees real demand for fashionable, lightweight bikes in Asia's largest motorcycle market.
