Apple M6 MacBook Pro and iMac: Faster On-Device AI

Apple M6 MacBook Pro and iMac: Faster On-Device AI
Apple announced its latest 14-inch MacBook Pro and 24-inch iMac on October 27, 2026, bringing its M6 chip to two popular Mac product lines. The update focuses on faster performance, AI-powered features and improved connectivity for developers, creative professionals and everyday users.
The M6 was first announced in August 2026 and is built using a 2-nanometre manufacturing process. Apple says the technology improves performance and power efficiency while supporting more demanding AI workloads.
Faster AI Performance With M6
The new MacBook Pro features a 12-core CPU, a 12-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. According to Apple, it delivers up to 25% faster on-device AI performance and up to 30% faster graphics than the previous M5 model.
Apple claims the updated iMac delivers up to five times faster on-device AI performance than the M4 version and up to 18 times faster performance than its most popular Intel-based iMac. These figures come from Apple's testing, so independent benchmarks will help establish how the improvements translate into everyday use.
On-device AI allows compatible applications to process certain tasks directly on a computer instead of relying entirely on cloud servers. This can improve responsiveness and help keep some user data on the device, although certain features still require internet access.
New Features and Connectivity
Both Macs support Apple's expanding Apple Intelligence features, including the Siri AI experience integrated into macOS 27. The iMac retains its 24-inch 4.5K Retina display and seven colour options, while adding Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports.
The MacBook Pro offers up to 24 hours of battery life, according to Apple, making it an option for users who need portable computing for demanding workloads.
Price and Availability in India
The M6 iMac starts at ₹1,74,900 in India, while the 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro starts at ₹2,39,900. Pre-orders open on October 28, with availability beginning November 6, according to Apple.
For buyers, the main consideration is whether faster local AI processing and graphics justify an upgrade. Users running compatible AI models or creative applications may benefit most, while owners of recent Macs should compare real-world performance before spending on new hardware.
