Kindle Unlimited is now Kindle+, with the same $11.99 US price and a bigger audiobook library that includes AI-narrated titles.

On October 21–22, 2026, Amazon renamed Kindle Unlimited as Kindle+. The headline change is audio. The subscription now includes a larger audiobook library, and part of it is narrated by AI voices rather than human performers.
If you already pay for Kindle Unlimited, this affects what you can listen to, how much it costs, and what to watch for as a listener. Here is what is confirmed and what is still unclear.
Kindle+ is the new name for Amazon's Kindle Unlimited. It is separate from Amazon Prime. The core terms are unchanged:
For most existing subscribers, nothing changes on the billing side. The difference is in the catalogue.
The audiobooks in Kindle+ come from two sources:
Virtual Voice is free for authors in Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). It started as a US beta in late 2023. At that point Amazon said only about 4% of KDP titles had an audiobook, because professional production costs thousands of dollars.
Kindle+ is where that tool reaches a mass audience. Reports from the launch say ebooks enrolled in KDP Select can now automatically get an audiobook in both Kindle+ and Audible Plus. That audiobook is the author's human recording if one exists, and an Amazon-generated one if not. Authors don't have to opt in, and reportedly the only way to keep such an audiobook out is to unpublish it.
| Kindle Unlimited (before) | Kindle+ (now) | |
|---|---|---|
| US price | $11.99/month | $11.99/month |
| Borrow limit | 20 titles | 20 titles |
| Audiobooks | Limited selection | Larger library, incl. AI-narrated |
| Ebooks, comics, magazines | Yes | Yes |
| Audio availability | US and select markets | US first; "more marketplaces" promised |
Coverage at launch is not fully consistent, so a few points need checking yourself:
Kindle+ is mostly a repackaging, but it signals a shift. Amazon can now advertise a much larger audiobook library without paying for human narration on every title. For readers, that means more choice. For the audiobook industry, it raises a real question about how listeners will tell human and synthetic narration apart, and whether they will care. Expect that debate to keep going as the catalogue grows.
Yes. It is the same subscription under a new name, with an expanded audiobook catalogue.
No. It stays at $11.99 per month in the US, and Amazon has said it will not raise the price.
No. The library includes both human-narrated titles and AI-narrated ones.
Amazon has said Virtual Voice audiobooks are labeled and have samples. Because launch coverage was mixed on the labeling, always listen to the sample first.
Not fully at launch. Amazon says more marketplaces are coming but hasn't given dates.
Kindle+ keeps the same price and borrowing rules as Kindle Unlimited but adds a much bigger audiobook shelf, partly filled by AI narration. That is good news if you want more audio for your money and are happy to sample first. It is less clear-cut if you value performed narration. Try a few titles within the 30-day trial before you decide.
