HCLTech Q2 Results: Profit Surges 21% as AI Revenue Reaches $219 Million

Q2 FY27 Results Show Strong Profit Growth
HCLTech, one of India's leading IT services companies, reported a substantial increase in profitability for the second quarter of financial year 2027, supported by growth in technology services, rising demand for artificial intelligence solutions and strong new contract wins.
For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, consolidated net profit increased 21.2% year-on-year to ₹5,132 crore, compared with ₹4,235 crore in the corresponding period last year. Revenue rose 11.5% to ₹35,620 crore, while revenue increased 3% sequentially compared with the June quarter.
The results highlight HCLTech's ability to expand profitability as businesses increasingly invest in AI-powered services, cloud infrastructure, digital transformation and enterprise technology modernisation.
However, the company's outlook remains measured. Global economic uncertainty, changing client spending patterns and the impact of AI-driven productivity on traditional IT services pricing continue to influence demand across the technology sector.
HCLTech Advanced AI Revenue Reaches $219 Million
Artificial intelligence emerged as a major growth driver in HCLTech's Q2 FY27 performance. Revenue from its advanced AI business reached $219 million for the quarter, increasing 28.4% sequentially and 78% year-on-year in constant-currency terms.
The quarterly figure translates into an annualised advanced AI revenue run rate of approximately $876 million. This reflects growing enterprise demand for AI implementation, automation, modernisation and other specialised technology services.
Companies across industries are exploring generative AI, AI agents and intelligent automation to improve productivity, streamline operations and enhance customer experiences. HCLTech is positioning its services around these opportunities by combining AI capabilities with its existing consulting, engineering, software and infrastructure expertise.
The company has also announced a global partnership with Anthropic to expand enterprise adoption of agentic AI. The collaboration is intended to support business solutions built around AI models and tools, with attention to governance, cybersecurity and responsible deployment.
Although advanced AI revenue is growing rapidly, the broader challenge for IT service providers is to convert AI adoption into sustainable revenue and profitability as customers increasingly expect productivity improvements from their technology partners.
Record Deal Wins Strengthen HCLTech's Business Pipeline
HCLTech reported new deal bookings with a total contract value of approximately $3.26 billion during the September quarter, an increase of around 27% compared with the same period last year.
Strong bookings can provide visibility into future business activity, although the timing of contract execution and revenue recognition may vary. The company continues to secure work across IT services, engineering and research and development, cloud, digital workplace solutions and AI-led transformation.
Among the notable developments was a major contract involving Mercedes-Benz, alongside other deals in manufacturing, technology infrastructure and enterprise operations.
For HCLTech, the combination of large client engagements and advanced AI projects could support longer-term growth. However, the conversion of these contracts into revenue will depend on implementation schedules, customer budgets and the broader economic environment.
HCLTech Raises Lower End of FY27 Revenue Guidance
Alongside its quarterly results, HCLTech revised its full-year FY27 revenue growth guidance to 2.5%–4% in constant-currency terms, raising the lower end from its previous forecast of 1% while retaining the upper end at 4%.
For its services business, the company expects revenue growth of 3%–4% in constant-currency terms. Its full-year EBIT margin guidance remains at 17.5%–18.5%.
The revised outlook indicates that management sees support from its order pipeline and demand for technology services, while remaining cautious about the uncertain global business environment.
Constant-currency figures are useful for assessing underlying business performance because they reduce the effect of exchange-rate movements. They can differ from reported revenue growth measured in rupees or US dollars.
Investors will continue to monitor client spending, the pace of AI adoption and the company's ability to sustain revenue growth without compromising margins.
Operating Margin Improves Despite Industry Challenges
HCLTech's earnings performance was accompanied by an improvement in operating profitability. Its EBIT margin reached 18.2%, increasing 131 basis points from the previous quarter and 71 basis points from a year earlier.
The improvement reflects factors including service mix, operational efficiency and business performance. The reported margin also included the impact of restructuring costs during the quarter.
The company declared an interim dividend of ₹12 per share for FY27, with October 16, 2026, set as the record date and October 26 as the payment date, according to its reported announcement.
HCLTech also added approximately 6,450 employees during the quarter, including more than 6,100 freshers. Workforce additions indicate continued hiring activity, even as IT companies adjust their talent strategies around automation and emerging AI skills.
HCLTech Faces a Changing Global IT Services Market
Despite its strong profit growth, HCLTech operates in an IT services market undergoing structural change. Businesses remain selective about discretionary technology spending, while geopolitical uncertainty and economic pressures can delay large transformation projects.
At the same time, artificial intelligence is changing how IT services are delivered and priced. AI tools can improve productivity and reduce the time required for certain tasks, but they may also put pressure on traditional billing models based on employee hours.
For technology companies, future growth will depend increasingly on the ability to deliver measurable business outcomes, build specialised AI capabilities and maintain long-term customer relationships.
HCLTech's rising advanced AI revenue and strong deal bookings provide evidence of demand for its newer offerings. However, its software business and other service lines may perform differently, making the composition of revenue an important factor in assessing the company's overall results.
Outlook: AI Growth Becomes Central to HCLTech's Strategy
HCLTech's Q2 FY27 results demonstrate a combination of stronger earnings, improved operating margins and accelerating AI-related revenue. Its ₹5,132 crore net profit and $219 million in quarterly advanced AI revenue underline the growing role of artificial intelligence in its business strategy.
The upward revision to the lower end of its revenue growth forecast offers a more supportive outlook, although the unchanged upper limit reflects continuing uncertainty about the market.
Going forward, investors and industry observers will watch whether HCLTech can convert its substantial contract pipeline into consistent revenue growth, scale AI services profitably and sustain margins in a changing technology landscape.
The company's latest performance reinforces a wider trend in the Indian IT industry: AI is becoming a central growth opportunity, but long-term success will depend on execution, customer demand and the ability to adapt traditional services to new technology-driven business models.
