Google Restricts Free Gemini Users to Flash-Lite Starting Today
From October 9, free Gemini users are limited to the Flash-Lite model, and Pro access is removed from the AI Plus tier.
Google's change to its Gemini plans takes effect October 9, 2026. Free users are now limited to the Flash-Lite model, and Pro access has been removed from the AI Plus tier, according to AI industry reports.
The move follows a trend of vendors steering heavier usage toward paid plans. Users who rely on more capable models may need to upgrade or consider alternatives.
