Paris Fashion Week SS27 Wraps: Chanel's Flight of Swallows, Saint Laurent Gold and the Return of Wearable Fashion

PARIS — Paris Fashion Week wrapped its Spring/Summer 2027 womenswear season on October 6, closing a month-long fashion calendar that moved through New York, London and Milan before reaching the French capital. The nine-day schedule opened on September 28 and delivered a clear message: after a season of viral spectacle, fashion houses are returning to their codes and to clothes people actually want to wear.
A Packed Calendar With Debuts and Returns
The Paris calendar featured 68 shows and 34 presentations, according to W Magazine, including two designer debuts: Drew Henry at Courrèges and Kai Nesselrath at Carven. Maison Margiela, Sacai and Christopher Esber returned after skipping last season, Valentino came back to Paris, and Telfar staged its first Paris runway show since 2019.
Chanel's Starry Sky and Saint Laurent's Gold
Matthieu Blazy transformed the Grand Palais for Chanel into a night sky, complete with a moon and flocks of white birds. He used swifts and swallows as symbols of lightness and freedom. Models walked on an iridescent surface, and one skirt evoked a wisp of cloud.
At Saint Laurent, Anthony Vaccarello delivered a golden, glittering show under a huge chandelier, with the Eiffel Tower twinkling in the background. Jonathan Anderson struck a contemplative mood at Dior, while Loewe offered ruffled skirts and draped dresses in saturated oranges and yellows. Over at Sacai, Chitose Abe combined fabrics and leather with hardware such as zips.
Identity Over Spectacle
A review of fourteen defining Paris shows noted that the strongest collections were less concerned with spectacle than with identity, whether through couture craft, archival references or eccentric styling. The question running through the week was what a fashion house should stand for now.
Nadège Vanhée brought lightness to Hermès. Alessandro Michele turned Valentino's show into a celebration of books at the Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève. Daniel Roseberry returned to essentials at Schiaparelli, with sharp separates and a largely monochrome palette. Stella McCartney took her collection to the sea, opening with David Attenborough's voice on the importance of the ocean, and Elie Saab drew inspiration from Jean Harlow.
Buzz Moments Beyond the Runway
Day one's blockbuster was Matières Fécales, the label that went viral earlier this year for one of Zendaya's red carpet looks, which staged its runway at Place de la République. Apple Martin, the daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow, made her runway debut at Chloé. Julie Kegels presented following her 2026 LVMH Prize win, and Avavav stepped away from viral moments to put the clothes back at the centre.
What It Means for Shoppers
Despite ongoing talk of a luxury slowdown, Paris still commands the fashion conversation. Early trend signals point toward glitter, gold and airiness, lightweight fabrics, and wearable essentials with a dose of fantasy. Spring/Summer 2027 collections typically reach stores in early 2027, so the current shoppable moment remains Fall/Winter 2026, where texture, check prints and dark romance dominate.
Dior's runway set has also been put on display at the Musée Rodin, giving fans another way to experience the show.
