India vs Pakistan Asian Games 2026 Final: Gold Medal Clash Begins in Nisshin

India vs Pakistan Face Off for Asian Games Cricket Gold
The much-anticipated India vs Pakistan Asian Games 2026 cricket final has begun in Nisshin, Japan, bringing the two South Asian rivals together for the first time in men's cricket at the Asian Games.
The gold-medal match is being played at Korogi Sports Park, with India and Pakistan both looking to finish their Asian Games campaign with the men's cricket title. The BCCI's official match centre lists the contest as a T20I final at the Nisshin venue.
India won the toss and captain Shreyas Iyer chose to bat first, putting Pakistan's bowling attack under pressure from the opening over.
India Retain Winning Combination
India have gone into the final with an unchanged playing XI from their semifinal against Sri Lanka.
The Indian side features Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi and Jasprit Bumrah.
The selection gives India a combination of young attacking batters, experienced international players and multiple bowling options.
Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is among the players attracting particular attention after his impressive contribution in the semifinal. India also have the experience of Bumrah and Iyer alongside established T20 names including Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma.
Pakistan Name Spin-Heavy Attack
Pakistan, led by Sahibzada Farhan, have selected a lineup featuring Maaz Sadaqat, Usman Khan, Saim Ayub, Hasan Nawaz, Abdul Samad, Arafat Minhas, Ahmed Daniyal, Saad Masood, Abrar Ahmed and Sufyan Moqim.
Pakistan are expected to rely heavily on their spinners because the Nisshin pitch has shown signs of providing turn and bounce during the tournament.
Abrar Ahmed and Sufyan Moqim are among the key spin options, while Arafat Minhas adds another bowling option to Pakistan's attack.
How India Reached the Final
India booked their place in the gold-medal match with a dominant 124-run victory over Sri Lanka in the semifinal.
India posted 169/7 in 20 overs, with Ishan Kishan making an unbeaten 80. Sri Lanka were subsequently bowled out for only 45 in 9.5 overs.
The result sent India into the final and set up the historic meeting with Pakistan.
Pakistan's Road to the Final
Pakistan reached the final after defeating Bangladesh by six wickets in a rain-affected semifinal.
The match was reduced to 13 overs, with Bangladesh scoring 111/7 before Pakistan chased the target and reached 112/4 in 11.3 overs.
Abdul Samad played a decisive role in the chase, scoring 30 from just 15 balls and helping Pakistan secure their place in the gold-medal match.
The contrast between the two semifinals has added another layer of interest to the final, with India arriving after a comprehensive win while Pakistan advanced from a much tighter contest.
A Historic Asian Games Encounter
Regardless of the result, the match is already historic.
India and Pakistan have never previously faced each other in men's cricket at the Asian Games, making the Nisshin final the first such encounter in the competition's history.
The final also comes shortly after the ICC announced the 2027 ODI World Cup schedule, which includes another India-Pakistan meeting.
However, the stakes in Japan are different: this time, the prize is an Asian Games gold medal.
Shreyas Iyer and Sahibzada Farhan Lead Their Teams
India captain Shreyas Iyer and Pakistan captain Sahibzada Farhan are leading their respective sides in the final.
Farhan has previously performed strongly against India in T20 cricket. According to Times of India, he scored 57, 58 and 40 against India during the previous year's T20 Asia Cup.
For India, the attention is spread across a deep batting lineup and a bowling attack featuring Jasprit Bumrah, who played a central role in India's semifinal victory.
India-Pakistan Rivalry Gets a New Asian Games Chapter
The India-Pakistan cricket rivalry is among the most closely followed contests in international sport, and the Asian Games final adds a completely new setting to it.
India currently lead the recent T20I head-to-head record, but the Asian Games final is a separate contest with different conditions, squads and circumstances.
The Nisshin pitch, Pakistan's spin-heavy bowling attack and India's aggressive batting lineup could all play important roles as the gold-medal battle develops.
With India batting first after winning the toss, Pakistan will now look to restrict the Indian total before beginning their chase.
The final result will determine the men's cricket gold medal winner at the Asian Games 2026.
