Release date, runtime, cast, advance booking numbers and what is still unconfirmed for Rajinikanth's Nelson-directed sequel

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 releases worldwide on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in the Deepavali window. Nelson Dilipkumar returns to direct the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster, with Rajinikanth back as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. With advance booking already strong, here is a round-up of what to know before you book tickets: release details, cast, runtime, certification, advance sales and what is still unconfirmed.

The release date has moved before. Rajinikanth said in September 2025 that the film would arrive on June 12, 2026, but that date slipped, according to Esquire India. The makers confirmed the October release with a teaser in July 2026. India.com reported that the film is about three minutes shorter than the first Jailer.
The makers have kept the plot under wraps. The listing on District describes it this way: when a dangerous syndicate expands its reach to threaten his family's peace, retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian goes undercover as a driver and takes on ruthless new enemies from the shadows. Treat that as a short synopsis rather than a full plot.
ETV Bharat, three days before release, reported:
| Metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| Gross for the first three days of shows on sale | ₹19.53 crore |
| Tickets sold | About 10.52 lakh across 10,151 shows |
| Houseful shows | 304 |
| Day 1 (October 15) gross, including blocked seats | ₹12.26 crore |
| Day 1 tickets sold | 6.46 lakh across 5,320 shows |
| Leading city | Chennai, ₹7.67 crore (about 39% of the total) |
Trackers differ because some include blocked seats and others do not, so figures vary between reports. An earlier Sacnilk snapshot reported worldwide Day 1 advance sales past ₹20 crore, including more than ₹17 crore from overseas pre-sales.
These are general suggestions, not from the makers:
Jailer was one of Rajinikanth's biggest hits, so the sequel arrives with high expectations and a festive release window. How it performs will be an early signal of Tamil cinema's strength this Deepavali season. That is an expectation, not a forecast.
