Mercedes-Benz has expanded its performance-car range in India with the launch of the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+, bringing plug-in hybrid technology to the AMG E-Class lineup. The sedan was launched in India on July 23, 2026, with prices starting at ₹1.45 crore (ex-showroom).
The AMG E 53 is offered in two versions — Performance Edition at ₹1.45 crore and Racing Edition at ₹1.48 crore. The model combines the performance-focused AMG powertrain with a plug-in hybrid system designed to provide an electric-only driving option for everyday use.
At the heart of the sedan is a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The combined system produces 585 hp and 750 Nm of torque. With the Race Start function, peak output can rise to 612 hp.
Mercedes-Benz says the AMG E 53 can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in around 4 seconds, while its standard top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. The Racing Edition can be specified with the AMG Driver's Package, raising the maximum speed to 280 km/h.
The plug-in hybrid system uses a 21.2 kWh usable battery with a gross capacity of 28.6 kWh. Mercedes-Benz lists an electric-only WLTP range of more than 100 km, allowing the sedan to operate without the petrol engine for shorter journeys.
The car supports 11 kW AC charging, while the official Mercedes-Benz India specifications list 60 kW DC charging, with a 10–80% charging time of around 20 minutes.
The E 53 Hybrid comes with AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension and active rear-axle steering. The rear steering system can turn the rear wheels by up to 2.5 degrees, helping with manoeuvrability at lower speeds and stability at higher speeds.
Inside, the sedan combines AMG-specific displays and sports seats with premium technology. Equipment includes a Burmester 4D surround sound system with 17 speakers, four exciters and 730 watts of output, along with Dolby Atmos support.
The AMG E 53 also features modern driver-assistance and convenience systems, including a 360-degree camera, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and available Digital Vehicle Key functionality.
The launch adds another plug-in hybrid option to Mercedes-Benz India's lineup while combining the brand's AMG performance hardware with an electrified powertrain.
