Google is expanding beyond smartphones, tablets and traditional Chromebooks with Googlebook, which it describes as a new category of laptops built around the Android technology stack and desktop foundations from ChromeOS.
The first Googlebook lineup includes devices from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, giving users multiple hardware designs and configurations. Prices start at $899.
Googlebook models offer up to 2.8K OLED touchscreen displays, 16GB or more of RAM on several configurations, modern Intel Core Ultra or Snapdragon X Elite processors, and dedicated NPUs capable of more than 45 TOPS of AI performance. Google says the laptops can deliver up to 14 hours of video playback, while some individual models list longer web-browsing battery estimates.
A major focus of Googlebook is Gemini.
Google has introduced features such as Magic Pointer, which brings Gemini into the area where users are working, and Rambler, a voice-based tool that turns spoken thoughts into structured text.
The company is also promoting proactive assistance, content-aware file search and Gemini Live, giving users ways to interact with AI through text, voice and screen context.
For developers, Googlebook also includes Antigravity, Google's AI agent development platform, along with a full terminal environment for development tools and agentic coding workflows.
Another major part of Googlebook is its connection with Android smartphones.
Features including Continue On, Cast My Apps and phone file access are designed to let users move between their phone and laptop more easily. Users can start a task on an Android phone and continue it on Googlebook, access phone files and even interact with phone applications from the laptop.
Googlebook starts at $899, with five initial laptop models from major manufacturers. Google says pre-orders are now available, while devices are scheduled to reach stores beginning October 4 in the U.S. and October 5 in several other markets, including the U.K., Canada, Australia, France and Germany.
Google is also bundling 12 months of Google AI Pro, including 5TB of cloud storage and Gemini services, with eligible Googlebook purchases.
