Google shipped a new stable Chrome release that includes additional performance measurement APIs, giving developers more granular visibility into rendering and scripting bottlenecks beyond what existing Core Web Vitals metrics expose.
The new APIs let developers attribute long tasks to specific script sources more precisely, which has historically been a pain point for teams trying to diagnose Interaction to Next Paint (INP) regressions on complex pages. Chrome's DevTools team says the additions build directly on developer feedback since INP replaced First Input Delay as a Core Web Vital.
Framework maintainers, including teams behind several popular JavaScript frameworks, have already indicated plans to integrate the new APIs into their built-in performance tooling. Broader browser support beyond Chromium-based browsers has not yet been confirmed.
Developers can access the new APIs immediately in the current stable Chrome release, with documentation available on developer.chrome.com.
