Abhishek Sharma Breaks Suryakumar Yadav's World Record for Most T20I Sixes in a Calendar Year

A new world record in Hyderabad
India opener Abhishek Sharma has set a new T20 International world record, overtaking former India captain Suryakumar Yadav for the most sixes in a calendar year by a player from a full-member nation. He reached the mark during the fourth T20I against the West Indies in Hyderabad on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
Abhishek hit his 69th six of 2026 in the ninth over of India's chase, advancing down the pitch to launch Shamar Springer over the boundary. That took him past Suryakumar's tally of 68 sixes in 2022, which had stood as the record.

Short innings, big milestone
Abhishek made 29 off 24 balls, with three fours and the one six that carried him to the record, before he was dismissed. Reports note that India still have several T20Is left this year, which means the left-hander could push his tally well beyond the current figure, and some even suggest a possible 100-six year.
India lose the match
The record came in a losing cause. Chasing a target of 248, India fell short by 24 runs (some reports say 25), despite a half-century from Sanju Samson. West Indies, led by a century from Shai Hope, levelled the five-match series at 2-2, setting up a decider in the final T20I.
Second record in days
The milestone follows another record from earlier in the series. In the third T20I in Indore on October 11, Abhishek smashed 69 off 30 balls and became the fastest batter to 2,000 T20I runs by balls faced, reaching the mark in 1,024 deliveries. Suryakumar Yadav had needed 1,164 balls. India won that match by 14 runs.
A record-filled stretch
Abhishek, a former world number one T20I batter and a member of India's T20 World Cup and Asia Cup winning squads, has also hit the fastest T20I century by a batter from a Test-playing nation. His run of records adds to a series in which he has repeatedly been in the headlines for his aggressive, high-strike-rate batting.
Details are drawn from media reports. The match margin is reported as 24 or 25 runs by different outlets.
